IC INFORMATION

NAME; Link
SERIES/FANDOM; The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

APPEARANCE; Link stands at about 5'5'', with a build that's on the stockier and more compact side of thin. Due to his lifestyle as a rancher, his body is well-toned and in good physical condition. His skin, although not as pale as some of the others in his village hometown, is still relatively pallid for a farmer. His hair is a dark, sandy blond color and his eyes a pure blue. The sharper angles in his face tell of manhood, but his cheeks still hold the rounder shape of boyhood; this being fitting, as he's only just reaching the tail end of his 17th year.

As the Hero's clothes have been bestowed upon him, Link no longer wears the traditional Ordonian clothing that he grew up. Now he wears a deep-forest green tunic. Beneath it a combination of undershirt, a coppery-colored chain mail, and traveling pants tucked into boots. A brown leather belt and baldric cinch the tunic in various places, and on his wrists he wears protective gauntlets. His shield and sword are kept on his back, and his hat and a pair of small blue hoop earrings complete the ensemble.

As a wolf (read: his wolf form looks more like that of a dire wolf, in my opinion) he stands at an impressive height for a beast. His fur is a combination of black and white coloring, with symbolic markings on his forehead. He retains the blue hoop earrings of his Hylian form, as well as a small metallic cuff around his left paw that has a chain attached to it.

Pictures of his Hylian and Wolf forms can be found in the following links:

ABILITIES;

Strengths/Abilities;
• As the Hero of Light and Shadow, and holder of the Triforce of courage, Link is imbued with the strength of the original legendary hero that existed many years before his time. He is extremely athletic, capable of performing many feats that demand high levels of agility and strength.
• He is the only current wielder of The Blade of Evil’s Bane: The Master Sword, which no evil hand may touch.
• Because he is the hero chosen by the goddesses, he is able to traverse the twilight in the form of a sacred beast (the particular incarnation Link forcibly assumes is that of a wolf) without turning into a shadow.
• He is capable of making use of a variety of weapons, most notably his bow and arrows.
• Link also holds claim to the title of the most skillful horseman in the entire kingdom of Hyrule.
• On the non-physical side, Link’s most marked strengths are his pure heart, boundless courage, and impenetrable sense of duty to his friends and the destiny mapped out for him by the goddesses.

Weaknesses;
• Despite being the hero of light/twilight, Link is still fairly young. As is such, he is relatively smaller in stature than say, a human from Earth. If caught off guard by a blow, he can be knocked asunder fairly easily. That being said, however, he keeps meticulous watch over his blind spots and is a very capable swordsman - catching him by surprise or with his guard down is difficult.
• Despite his skillful swordsmanship, Link is obviously not made of stone. He can die, be poisoned, skewered, contract the flu, or have anything else injurious otherwise happen to him that other humans can.
• Having grown up sheltered in a farming town his entire life, Link is naturally somewhat naïve to the various dangers of Hyrule, and the different kinds of people that exist beyond the forest he knows- this too, extends to other worlds beyond the kingdom ruled by the legends he knows and lives by.

PERSONALITY; Quiet and unassuming, Link is a paragon of the stoic hero. He is extremely steadfast and courageous, often throwing his life on the line to rush selflessly to the aid of any that seek his help. Although Link is young, the ways in which he thinks and acts reflect the mannerisms of the ancient heroes who also possessed the Triforce that he now carries.

Because he is a man with a destiny written out by the goddesses, much of Link’s existence is defined by the traits deemed worthy by the goddesses for a hero who would protect Hyrule. These traits are marked by the Triforce of Courage and most notably manifest in the bearer possessing a soul that is truly pure, as well as courage that appears boundless. These characteristics are understandably much different than those of many of the townsfolk Link grew up with, or indeed many of the other denizens of Hyrule as well. The price of these unique traits and gifts is often a sense of isolation that is forced upon the heroes by the sheer reality of their uniqueness.

It is this uniqueness, this air of quiet strength, which would push the young rancher’s friends and village ‘family’ to press Link to inherit leadership of Ordon village when the timing became appropriate.

Link’s quest is a very long, and lonely one, as is the case for every chosen hero. It is a burden that Link bears because he must, but he does not regret having to bear it, either. He simply accepts his deemed responsibilities without questioning them, even when times are difficult. It is this sense of duty and desire to do whatever he can to save the land that separates him from many others within the kingdom of Hyrule; it is what makes him the only one capable of becoming the next hero chosen by the goddesses.

Because of the nature of his existence and quest, it is difficult at first for Link to relate to many people. This does not, however, mean that he is incapable of kindness or does not attempt to relate to them. In fact, nothing could be farther from the truth. Link is a deeply kind, and caring person who displays empathy openly when the people he cares about are in danger or saddened – or when any people are in danger and in need of assistance, for that matter. But that being said, fighting and questing are often Link’s chief focuses as opposed to socializing and politics.

But when not burdened with a quest or search, Link is possessed of a peaceful soul and demeanor that is almost ancient in its depths, and yet pure in its simple nature. As the expression aptly puts it: still waters run deep.

There is one last key element that can’t be forgotten when considering Link’s personality. That element being, that beneath all his responsibilities to his village, as well as Midna, Zelda, and Hyrule – Link is still essentially a young man on the brink of adulthood. Somewhere beneath the surface lurks a child who was thrust too soon into the coming of age and duties the likes many would never see in hundreds of lifetimes over.

HISTORY;

Link was born into a world where he would not know either of his parents- even in childhood. By unknown circumstances, he came under the guidance and care of the leader of Ordon village. It is under the wings of the various adults in the village that Link would grow up to become a responsible young man, possessing of an unusually strong heart and sharp mind.

Unknown to Link and the villagers alike, the young Hylian had been born with the power of the Triforce of Courage. He would be destined to be the next hero to follow, but his realization as the hero would not come for many years. Unlike many of the past heroes bearing the same mark as himself, Link would be lucky enough to have a childhood that could be fully realized up until his later teenage years.

Having been raised as a rancher in his hometown of Ordon in the Ordona Province, the life Link knew as a child was quiet and untroubled. Despite being the only orphan in town, he was well liked and trusted by the townsfolk- being especially popular with the children of the village in particular. It was said among the villagers that Link would take on the leadership position of the humble village when the current leader passed, or became too old to maintain his position.

Link’s most important friendship during his time in the village was with a girl of similar age to him named Ilia. Ilia, a smart young woman with an uncommonly deep heart, had grown up with Link and been by his side constantly since they had both been very young. Often, the two would care for Link’s horse Epona together. As they reached their late teenage years, the two grew closer to the point at which they trusted each other deeply and depended upon one another. This, however, never stopped the brash, yet well-intentioned young woman from chewing Link out when he’d occasionally accidentally work Epona too hard.

The other youths of the village played important roles in Link’s life, as well. They brought hope, and promise to the village- even despite the occasional bullying that would happen. To Link they were often his chief reason to fight, and preserve the peace. All of the children looked up to Link, but none so much as one of the quieter boys, Colin.

This simple life of fishing, ranching, and farming in Ordon came to a sharp halt around the time when Link and Ilia were just coming of the age of young adulthood. Link, called upon by the village to deliver a tribute to Hyrule castle, donned the customary hero’s clothes and prepared his horse for the long journey. Before he could leave, however, the children of the village were kidnapped, and in the effort to rescue them Link was rendered unconscious.

Monsters that had long since been outside the enchanted forests and caves surrounding Ordon village had pervaded the peaceful village at last. The village was thrust into turmoil, with both the children gone, and Link missing as well.

Upon awakening in the spring outside the village, Link discovered a path hewn in black twilight. He had trekked through this corner of the forest many a time, but never had he seen something as ominously beautiful as the twilight that draped in shadow and mysterious shining symbols. When Link moved closer to inspect this strange occurrence, a dark hand surged forward through the twilight and seized him. Before he could fight off the hand around his torso, Link found himself being pulled through to the other side. The forest had faded away into blackness, until the previously blue sky was an odd, blotched black.

Inside the twilight, most normal Hylians and Ordonians are turned into shadows upon first contact. Link, bearing the Triforce of Courage, was instead transformed into the form of a sacred wolf. Shortly afterwards, he was quickly taken captive by monsters that had waited in the shadows. The black twilight monsters grabbed the sacred wolf by a hind leg, and dragged him ruthlessly to the outskirts of Hyrule castle. They imprisoned Link in a small cell, and cuffed one of his paws to the floor.

It was inside this cell where Link first encountered what appeared to another of the monsters- a twilight imp. The imp, chuckling at Link’s struggling, shortly revealed herself to be named Midna. Unknown to Link, Midna knew exactly who he was, and had known from the moment the Triforce of Courage in his hand had transformed him into the beast that sat stuck in the cage before her now. Despite helping Link escape the cage, however, she quickly proved herself to be a disrespectful nuisance. But because Link was unfamiliar with the world of Twilight, he was forced to rely on Midna’s help in order to find a way to return himself to his human form.

It was in the watery underbelly of the castle that Link discovered just how distinctly uncomfortable it was to be a wolf. On one hand-rather, paw- he was now capable of moving much more quickly and naturally than he could as a human. And yet the bombardment of new scents and various other new senses was almost overwhelming at first. Everything was different. Everything.

And to top it off, Midna, had taken him as an unwilling steed. But for the children, for his village, Link had endless patience and would endure.

It was in the twilight beyond the watery cellars that Midna first lead Link to Princess Zelda. They traversed rooftops in the strong winds, and eventually climbed to the highest tower of Hyrule Castle.

It was there that they came upon Princess Zelda. Link, however, never having known the world beyond Ordon, was unaware of what the fabled Princess even looked like. He had heard numerous stories of her untold wisdom, inner strength, and shining beauty- but Link had never even seen as much as a picture of the Hyrulian Princess.

But the woman that stood before Midna and himself now was indiscernible in her black cloak. It was only when she removed her hood, that they would finally see her face.

What struck Link immediately was the Princess’s eyes- although at first glance cool, and intelligent- they held a depth of warmth that was unexpected. Midna, naturally, was unimpressed and thought nothing more than to offer casual little teasing verbal pokes.

But it was then that the princess would reveal the mission that laid ahead of the twilight imp and wolf. Zelda, with sad but determined eyes, quickly informed them both that the only way to rid Hyrule of the twilight choking out the light was to restore the light spirits to the various Provinces and collect the mysterious Fused Shadows in order to defeat the evil Usurper twilight king, Zant. It was Zant, said Zelda, that had taken over Hyrule castle and forced the surrender of Hyrule.

And with quest in mind, Link set out to complete the sizeable mission ahead of him.

Along the way, Link encountered many types of races he had never fathomed possible before. There were beings made of rock that lived within a high volcano, people that were more fish than actual people…

The mission was long, and difficult, but eventually with determination and help from Midna along the way, the deed was done.

After saving the light spirits and collecting Fused Shadow pieces, Midna and Link encountered the evil King Zant. Zant, infuriated by Midna’s ‘betrayal’, stole the Fused Shadow and attacked Midna, bringing her close to death. Zant also in turn embedded a shadow crystal into Link’s head, which trapped him in his wolf form.

As a wolf, Link hastened to rescue Midna by bringing her to Princess Zelda. It was during this trek that he’d run so hard his paws hurt – and utilized every short cut he could remember.

All in the name of rescuing the imp that had first tried to use him entirely for her own gain. But she was not wholly selfish, and that realization had come.

Once the injured pair arrived in Zelda’s tower, Zelda finally realized exactly who Midna was and sacrificed herself in order to save her. This took a vicious toll on the Princess, however, and she dissolved instantly into a shower of light. Midna, surprised and touched by Zelda’s sacrifice, urged Link on with a steadfast desire to help her save Zelda.

Link soon quickly traveled to the Sacred Grove whereupon he found the sacred Master Sword. The Master sword, the Blade of Evil’s Bane, restored Link to his human form and gave him the ability to transform between wolf and human forms at will. Finally, that which had taken so much control over him was an ability that he could practically hold in the palm of his hand.

Following the retrieval of the sacred blade, the pair set off in search of the Twilight Mirror-the passage into the world where they would find Zant- only to find it broken into five shards.

Following a long and treacherous journey that passed through thick blizzards and deep into the destroyed light temple, Link collected the various scattered mirror shards and restored the mirror in order to venture into the Twilight Kingdom and destroy Zant for good.

After a fierce battle in which Link emerged victorious, Midna crushed Zant with what remained of the power of her ancestors flowing through her body.

With the usurper twilight king Zant dead, all that remained was the tremendous power standing behind Zant as a false god—Ganondorf. Before meeting his destruction, Zant had revealed that his ability to take the throne from its rightful owners had come about through a dark and wild power much greater than his own. He had allowed Ganondorf to influence him, and had been punished.

The sages, the ghostly white physical embodiments of the elements that made up Hyrule, then placed the arduous task of defeating Ganondorf upon the shoulders of Link and Midna. Ganondorf was the last obstacle standing in the way of returning peace to Hyrule.

It took some time to reach Hyrule Castle again, as it had been shrouded in twilight. To Link’s shock, Midna utilized the Fused Shadow and the powers of old to break through the diamond of dully sparkling shadow that had encased Hyrule castle.

Once he reached the throne room, Midna and Link were horrified to find Princess Zelda’s lifeless body hanging in the center of the Triforce statute that rested above the throne. In that throne, was the evil king of darkness himself, Ganondorf.

In a move that was not unprecedented of himself, Ganondorf possessed Zelda’s body and used her against Link in an attempt to kill him. Link, left without any choice other than to keep Ganondorf from polluting Zelda’s body and destroying both the princess and himself, was forced to attack the Zelda and wound her until she was no longer a suitable puppet to be used.

Angered by this development, Ganondorf finally appeared in the form of an evil beast- one that seemed to most clearly represent the state of his heart. At Midna’s word, Link hastened to transform into his sacred wolf form, and soon Ganondorf had been dispatched. It

Seeing the right opportunity, Midna went to Zelda, restoring the life she had gifted in the process.

But when everything seemed over, quickly the scene escalated and Ganondorf returned, this time in the shape of a giant floating, flaming head. It was then that Midna seized Link and Zelda, and transported them out of harm’s way. Far, far back in Hyrule Castle, there was a gigantic, earth-shattering explosion. Midna had speared the creature with one of the spires utilized by the Fused Shadow.

Once the dust had cleared and the dark sky again visible, to the shock and anguish of both Link and Zelda, Ganondorf sat before them both on his horse, unharmed. He laughed and grinned madly as he crushed the helmet that Midna had worn- harm had befallen her.

With no choice other than to pursue Ganondorf, Zelda-newly equipped with the light arrows that reflected the purity of the Princess’s soul, mounted Epona behind Link. They rode after the black horse that housed their foe, taking care to dodge the ghastly creatures that Ganondorf’s evil magic left in his wake.

Finally, the evil king had been shaken from his mount – and Link was left in a ring with the evil king. Face to face they stared one another down, the truest opposites, and foes that ever were. His sword was drawn and he was prepared.

However, out of the corner of his eye he noticed an explosion of dark magic on the outer fringe of the encasing magical ring that contained his battle with the evil. Whipping to face the explosion, he noticed it envelope Zelda, in a ghastly sort of thunderbolt. Link’s eyes widened in a surge of panic-

But he had been distracted and turned away from the evil king for far too long.

Link felt a sharp, blasting pain hit his back in the form of the evil sword that the king wielded, and then his vision went completely dark.

It was then that he was taken from Hyrule, with the final battle left incomplete.
